Chvrches released the horror-inspired new album ‘Screen Violence’ back in August, and now they’ve released a ‘Director’s Cut’ featuring three new tracks.
The Scottish band’s new album featured a collaboration with The Cure’s Robert Smith, called ‘How Not To Drown’, along with singles ‘Good Girls’ and ‘He Said She Said’.
The album and artwork were heavily inspired by horror films, making it perfect Halloween listening.
The ‘Director’s Cut’ edition features three tracks that were “intended to be included” on the album.
The new tracks include ‘Killer’, ‘Screaming’, and ‘Bitter End’, and you can hear them below.
The new edition is out today, October 29.
Chvrches revealed the news on social media: “Out at midnight in your local timezone – the Director’s Cut, featuring Killer, Screaming, and Bitter End, contains 30% more Screen Violence than the original. Pre-save it now and be the first to listen at the link in bio.”
Fans have praised the new songs, ‘Killer’ in particular.
Singer Lauren Mayberry tweeted: “As every good horror fan knows — just because the movie ends, it doesn’t mean the story will…”
Mayberry has also dressed up as various horror icons and shared the images on social media.
Speaking to NME, she said the album was written at a time where“[her] association with screens had become very negative”.
“It was horrible to have to only see people on screens – I’ve not seen my mum in 3D since Christmas 2019,” she added.
“But I think, if anything, it made me more grateful because if this didn’t exist I couldn’t talk to you; we couldn’t have made this record and we couldn’t have spoken to any of our friends and family. It makes you think – are the machines evil, or are we?”
Their collaboration track with Robert Smith was featured in an episode of CSI Vegas in the US, which the band tweeted about proudly.
To celebrate the release of the album, Lauren wrote: “One month of Screen Violence! Thank you for embracing our sad, spooky baby with such open arms. Can’t wait to sob-sing it live.”
The band have also confirmed a festival appearance at Mad Cool for 2022.
