Charli XCX‘s ‘Brat’ is the outright favourite for the 2024 Mercury Prize
Also among the 12 shortlisted albums for this week's prize are Rolling Stone UK's Future of Music stars Barry Can't Swim, English Teacher and The Last Dinner Party.
Charli XCX‘s Brat is now the outright favourite to win this week’s Mercury Prize, with over a 40 per cent chance of picking up the gong.
Brat was announced as one of the 12 nominees for the annual prize back in July alongside The Last Dinner Party, BERWYN, Cat Burns, CMAT and more.
Charli was initially cast as joint-favourite for the win with The Last Dinner Party, but now sits at 11/6 favourite, ahead of English Teacher‘s This Could Be Texas at 5/1, per OLBG.
The winner of this year’s prize will be revealed this Thursday (September 5), but a break with tradition will see the usual live ceremony at London’s Hammersmith Apollo dropped in favour of “other extensive promotional activity”.
Specifically, the BBC have detailed live programming on BBC Four and BBC Radio 6 Music on Thursday. A live show on Abbey Road Studios will see all the nominated artists coming together to watch their recent performances and celebrate the albums from their fellow nominees.
That show will air on BBC Four from 8-9.15PM with the winner set to be announced around 9PM, an official press release confirms.
Others to feature on the list are Rolling Stone UK’s 2024 Future of Music stars Barry Can’t Swim and Nia Archives, alongside Beth Gibbons, Corinne Bailey Rae, corto.alto and Ghetts.
Elsewhere, Charli XCX has heralded the arrival of September by declaring Brat summer over.
