BTS‘ Suga stopped by police for driving scooter while drunk
“We apologise for the disappointment caused by our artist’s inappropriate behaviour,” the label Big Hit Music said in a statement.
BTS‘ Suga has apologised to fans after being booked by police in South Korea for driving an electric scooter while intoxicated.
Per Soompi, the singer was booked by police in Seoul in the early hours of Wednesday morning for violating the Road Traffic Act.
The band’s label, Big Hit, shared a statement revealing that Suga fell off the scooter and was asked to give a breathalyser test by police.
The statement said: “We apologise regarding BTS member Suga’s electric scooter accident. On the night of August 6 (Tuesday), Suga was on his way home in an intoxicated state, using an electric scooter while wearing a helmet.
“He fell while parking after moving about 500 meters, and the police officer who was nearby conducted a breathalyser test, resulting in a fine and the cancellation of his license. Nobody was hurt, and no property damage occurred due to the incident, and he was taken home under police custody.”
It added: “We apologise for the disappointment caused by our artist’s inappropriate behaviour. As a public service worker, he will receive appropriate disciplinary action from his workplace for causing public disturbance. We will take greater care to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. Thank you.”
On the HYBE platform, Suga himself said: “I violated the road traffic law because I was comfortable with the idea of being close (to home) and was not aware that you could not use an electric scooter when you are drunk.
“I apologise to everyone who has been hurt by my careless and wrong behaviour.”
BTS announced they would go on hiatus in 2022 so all seven members could complete their miliatry service requirements. The group is expected to reconvene in 2025.
Member Jin was discharged from the military this summer as the first member of the K-pop band to complete the requirement, and carried the Olympic Torch in France last month ahead of the Paris games.
