Britney Spears’ husband Sam Asghari files for divorce

Britney Spears‘ husband Sam Asghari has filed to divorce the singer after 14 months of marriage, it has been revealed.

The pair tied the knot at a celebrity-filled ceremony in Los Angeles last June. Guests at the intimate ceremony apparently included Madonna, Drew Barrymore and Paris Hilton. It is the third marriage for Spears, who has two children with her second husband, dancer Kevin Federline.

At the end of 2021, Britney was finally released from a 13-year conservatorship that saw her father control much of her personal life; she had previously complained that the arrangement forbade her from marrying Asghari.

Now, People reports that Asghari has filed for divorce, but no comment has been received from Spears’ or Asghari’s camp.

Britney Spears’ ex-husband, Jason Alexander, was arrested for attempting to gatecrash the pop star’s wedding to Asghari.

Alexander – not be confused with the ‘Seinfeld’ star of the same name – was led away in cuffs by Ventura County officers after attempting to disrupt the ceremony, which ultimately went ahead as planned and saw Spears tie the knot with Asghari, a personal trainer who she met on the set of the video for her 2016 single ‘Slumber Party’.

She was married to Alexander, a childhood friend, for 55 hours in 2004. He arrived at the site of the ceremony in southern California at around 2pm local time, having used social media to livestream his approach to the site. He claimed that Spears had invited him to the wedding, announcing “I’m her first husband…I’m here to crash the wedding.” He described the singer as “my first wife, my only wife.”
