BRIT Awards 2025: Charli XCX wins Songwriter of the Year
She’s also up for five awards – the most of any artist this year – at this weekend’s ceremony

The BRIT Awards has announced its latest pre-show award winner, with Charli XCX winning Songwriter of the Year.
This year’s awards will take place at The O2 in London this Saturday, March 1, and be broadcast live on ITV. It will once again be hosted by Jack Whitehall for 2025, returning for his fifth time in the role.
Ahead of the show, a number of award winners are being announced. First, Myles Smith won the Rising Star award, with Charli’s producer A. G. Cook being named Producer of the Year this week.
Charli, who is up for five BRITs around her enormous 2024 album Brat, follows in the footsteps of RAYE from last year in winning Songwriter of the Year.
Damian Christian, Chair of the BRIT Committee for 2025, said of the win: “Charli has had an undeniable year, taking her experimental brand of electronic and pop from underground raves to the heart of mainstream culture.
“Charli’s songwriting is distinctive, bold and relentlessly innovative, and, having been one of the UK’s leading songwriters for a number of years now, has taken her craft to new heights with her global phenomenon Brat. I’m delighted she has been recognised for this much deserved award.”
Charli leads the way in the 2025 BRIT Awards nominations, up in five categories. Following up with four nominations each are Ezra Collective, The Last Dinner Party and Dua Lipa. Elsewhere, The Cure have received three nominations – their first BRITs nods in two decades – while The Beatles are nominated for Song of the Year with ‘Now and Then’, their first BRITs nomination since the first ever awards in 1977.
International categories recognise the likes of Fontaines D.C., Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan, while Rolling Stone UK’s 2024 Future of Music cover star, Rachel Chinouriri, is up for Best New Artist and Artist of the Year.
Performing at the ceremony on Saturday will be Carpenter, Sam Fender, JADE (fresh from her appearance at the Rolling Stone UK Awards), Shaboozey, Teddy Swims, The Last Dinner Party and Myles Smith.
