Blossoms announce Stockport premiere of new film, ‘Ribbon Around the Bomb’
The band will play their new album of the same name in full at the Plaza

Blossoms will premiere their new film with a screening and live performance in Stockport.
‘Ribbon Around the Bomb’ shares its name with the band’s forthcoming fourth studio album, which is set for release on April 29. The following Tuesday, May 3, will see the five-piece take over the Plaza Theatre in their hometown to debut the accompanying film, which was directed by Arctic Monkeys’ creative director, Edwin Burdis. He’s also been behind each of the music videos for the new album. The Plaza served as a shooting location for the film.
After the screening, the band will take the stage to play ‘Ribbon Around the Bomb’ in its entirety. Tickets go on sale tomorrow (April 7) at 10am – you can grab them here. Additionally, the band have shared a trailer for the film, which you can see below.
Commenting on the ‘Ribbon Around the Bomb’ film, frontman Tom Ogden said: “What a joy it was making this film with Edwin Burdis. It was also great to work with my cousin, Daniel Rigby, a BAFTA award winning actor, who brilliantly plays ‘The Writer’ who is trying to put on his new play ‘Ribbon Around the Bomb’. Edwin’s unique style and vision really took the film to surreal corners, using editing techniques I’ve never come across before! The outcome is a quirky, dream-like film that we absolutely love.”
Burdis himself weighed in on the ‘Ribbon Around the Bomb’, saying: “We created a script for this film so that we could rip it up…It was an absolute pleasure to collaborate with Blossoms and such diversely talented practitioners and performers on this project. The Stockport Plaza was a joy to work in and it very much became an unexpected central character of the piece. Whilst a lot of time and care went into crafting the script, the cast and crew had full permission to improvise, which really allowed creativity to flow.”
Back in February, Rolling Stone UK headed to Blossoms’ rehearsal space in Stockport to get the lowdown on ‘Ribbon Around the Bomb’, with Ogden discussing its more expansive sound. “In the past, what I’ve listened to has always fed into the songs. I was really into Talking Heads on the last album and it really fed into those songs,” he said. “But on this one, the songs were just themselves and we could make them sound a little bit like Paul Simon. We’ve recorded real strings, too, so it’s a grander-sounding record.”
Full UK tour dates behind ‘Ribbon Around the Bomb’ have yet to be revealed; in the meantime, the group will play launch shows in Manchester and Kingston-Upon-Thames before going on to some massive support slots over the summer. You can see their current schedule below.
