Bloc Party seek deeper connection on new single ‘Sex Magik’
The latest single from the band's sixth album 'Alpha Games'
Bloc Party have shared ‘Sex Magik’, the third cut from their forthcoming sixth album ‘Alpha Games’.
The sprightly new song hears frontman Kele Okereke sing about self-actualisation through sex, nature, magic and spirituality. “Find your root / Find your core / Then go clear like the air in our lungs / Ask the earth/ For resolve / Ossify like the marrow in our bones,” he sings at the chorus.
‘Sex Magik’ follows the release of last month’s ‘The Girls Are Fighting’ and album lead single ‘Traps’.
Speaking about ‘Traps’ previously, Okereke said: “From the moment we wrote it we knew it had to be the first thing people heard from this album; playing it in soundchecks on our last tour before it was finished and hearing how it sounded in those big rooms and outdoors.”
‘Alpha Games’ is released on April 26 via Infectious/BMG. It’s available to pre-order/pre-save here.
The news follows Bloc Party being confirmed to play BBC 6 Music Festival in Cardiff this April.
‘Alpha Games’ was was first teased in January 2020 by Okereke online after he announced the rescheduling of his tour in support of his fourth solo album ‘2042’ (2019). The musician released his follow-up, ‘The Waves Pt. 1’, last May.
Previous Bloc Party album ‘Hymns’ (2016) received positive reviews, with The Guardian referring to it as a “brave and successful reinvention”. Following the album’s release, the band embarked on their Silent Alarm Live tour, which saw them play their 2005 debut album in full.
Bloc Party are set to showcase ‘Alpha Games’ on a UK and European tour in May and June 2022. You can find ticket details here and see the full schedule below.
