Arlo Parks opens up on approval from Taylor Swift: “She’s always been so supportive”
Taylor is quite the fan of the Mercury Prize winning star
Arlo Parks has opened up on the support she’s received from Taylor Swift, after the singer congratulated her recent Mercury Prize victory.
The London star scooped the prestigious award last month with her acclaimed debut ‘Collapsed In Sunbeams’, which was released to critical acclaim in January 2021.
Swift was among the first major stars to congratulate Parks on her victory, tweeting: “This is so well deserved. Your album is stunning.”
However, Parks has now revealed that it isn’t the first time she’s received a supportive message from the pop icon.
Speaking in the first issue of Rolling Stone UK, she said: “She sent me a little note at the BRITs. She was like ‘Hey, it’s Taylor’, and said she loved my music and wished me luck for the rest of the evening. But because there was no surname, I thought perhaps it was someone from my team that I hadn’t met before.
“I quickly came to realise that it was from her! Yeah, so she’s just always been very supportive.”
Parks also discussed her own reaction to the win, and how she’s yet to decide what to do with the huge prize sum.
“It was definitely a very intense experience. But it was beautiful, though, you know, because my parents were there, and my whole team was there, and everyone was crying.”
Describing her plans for the £25,000 prize fund, she added: “I don’t want to talk about it too much. I do believe in that idea of balance, and in the idea that when good things come my way, I should try to pass that forward.”
