Andrea Martin, the US songwriter who penned hits for En Vogue, Blu Cantrell and Lewis Lewis, has died at the age of 49.

The musician passed away Tuesday (27 September 2021), according to a statement posted by friends and family.

A cause of death has not been given.

“It is with a heavy heart we inform you of the passing of our beautiful Andrea Martin also know as ‘Annie’,” reads a statement from loved one on a GoFundMe memorial fund page for Martin’s children.

The statement continues: “Andrea will always be remembered for her passion and dedication to her family and friends. Her impact will continue to be felt and heard for a lifetime.

“We thank you in advance for your condolences, love, compassion and understanding during this time. Please limit calls as we are trying to finalize arrangements at this time. Once finalized we will be sure to post arrangements.”

Martin served as a co-writer on the UK number one hits ‘Breathe’ by Cantrell and Sean Paul, and Tomcraft’s ‘Loneliness’.

For En Vogue, she co-wrote the top five hit Don’t Let Go (Love) (which went to number two on the US Billboard Hot 100.)

Further writing credits include Lewis’ ‘Better In Time’ which hit number two in the UK and 11 in the US.

Martin furthermore wrote tracks for Toni Braxton, Angie Stone and Will Young. She had also worked as a back-up vocalist.

On Instagram today, En Vogue posted a photo of Martin alongside the caption: “The music world has experienced such a huge loss. Singer/songwriter Andrea Martin has written so many hits including one of our biggest records, Don’t Let Go.

“Thank you for sharing your gift with the world. Sleep in Peace Andrea!”

Tributes also came from Jennifer Hudson, who commented: “So saddened by the loss of Andrea Martin. Not only a talented singer and songwriter but a wonderful person!”
