Adele has revealed more about why her Las Vegas residency dates were postponed, following the tearful video she posted to confirm that the shows would be delayed.
She appeared on The Graham Norton Show on Friday, and elaborated further about why the shows could not go ahead as planned.
Adele claims numerous delays in Vegas impacted the quality of the show, which was due to begin at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on January 21. The shows were scheduled to run until April.
The concerts were cancelled the day before the opening night. Adele explained: “I tried my hardest and really thought I would be able to pull something else together in time, and that was why it was so last minute,”
The ‘Easy On Me’ star continued: “I regret that I kept going until that late in the day. But it just wasn’t ready.”
Adele blamed delays caused by COVID and insisted “some things weren’t going to be arriving until the day of the show”.
She added: “It just would have been a really half-arsed show, and I can’t do that. People will see straight through me, up on stage being like, ‘She doesn’t want to be doing this.’
“I’ve never done anything like that in my life. I’m not going to start now, you know? I’m obviously gutted,” she stressed.
Many fans and critics had been asking why she couldn’t just perform an acoustic set or a stripped back version of the plans, and Norton asked the question they all wanted to know.
Adele insisted: “I’m not going to try do a stadium show in a theatre – but it’s Vegas. It can’t just be me on my fucking guitar.”
She told fans on the show that the residency will still take place later this year: “We’re working our arses off, literally 24 hours a day, but I don’t want to announce a new set of dates until I know everything will definitely be ready.”
“It has to happen this year because I’ve got plans for next year,” she added. “Imagine if I have to cancel because I am having a baby!”
Adele led the winners at this year’s awards, picking up the gongs for Artist Of The Year, Album Of The Year for ’30’ and Song Of The Year for ‘Easy On Me’.
