ABBA have shared a clip of their upcoming new single, ‘Just A Notion’, which is set to be released this Friday (Oct. 22).
The track, which is the latest to arrive from comeback album ‘Voyage’, was previewed via a 15-second clip posted to social media.
It shows the track to be immediately reminiscent of classic tracks such as ‘Waterloo’, while also following a similar piano melody to recent comeback track ‘Don’t Shut Me Down’. Listen to it below:
The group broke their 39-year hiatus last month to release their dual single, ‘I Still Have Faith in You’ and ‘Don’t Shut Me Down’. ABBA will be releasing a new album, ‘Voyage’, which is scheduled for release on Friday 5th November 2021.
ABBA gained international recognition when they became Sweden’s first winners of the Eurovision Song Contest, with their track ‘Waterloo’, in 1974. Since then, they have gone on to sell around 150 million records, releasing eight studio albums.
Their final album before their indefinite hiatus, ‘The Visitors’, was released in 1981, with the release of ‘Voyage’ marking 40 years since then. ‘Voyage’ will feature brand new tracks from the quartet, including a Christmas song.
The news of their album came with the announcement of a concert tour to support it, featuring an innovative experience. The group, comprised of Agnetha Fältskog, Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Anni-Frid Lyngstad will see digital versions of themselves appear, accompanied by a 10-piece live band.
The avatars will reimagine the members as their younger selves, in a move that hints at the nostalgia fans can expect from the tour. Each date of the tour will take place at The ABBA Arena, a custom-built arena at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London.
ABBA described their reunion in a recent statement: “It’s been a while since we made music together. Almost 40 years, actually. We took a break in the spring of 1982 and now we’ve decided it’s time to end it. They say it’s foolhardy to wait more than 40 years between albums, so we’ve recorded a follow-up to “The Visitors”.”
They added: “To all of you who patiently have followed us in some way or another these past decades: Thank you for waiting – it’s time for a new journey to begin.”
