A$AP Rocky arrested in connection with shooting
He was arrested earlier today at Los Angeles International Airport
A$AP Rocky has been arrested today (April 20) in connection with a shooting that occurred in late 2021.
His arrest was announced by the Los Angeles Police Department this evening who said that the shooting occurred in Hollywood in November 2021.
A statement from the police department read: “On November 6, 2021, around 10:15 p.m., an argument between two acquaintances occurred in the area of Selma Avenue and Argyle Avenue, in the Hollywood Area. The argument escalated and resulted in the suspect firing a handgun at the victim. The victim sustained a minor injury from the incident and later sought his medical treatment. Following the shooting, the suspect and two additional males fled the area on foot.
“Detectives worked diligently to investigate and corroborate the reporting information which helped identify the suspect(s) involved. The suspect has been identified as 33-year-old Rakim Mayers, a Los Angeles resident, also known as music artist A$AP Rocky.”
LAPD officers arrested Rocky at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) for ‘assault with a deadly weapon (firearm)’.
They added in a statement that the case will now “be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.”
Rolling Stone UK has reached out to representatives of A$AP Rocky for comment.
Earlier this year, Rihanna confirmed that she’s expecting her first child with A$AP Rocky.
The Barbadian singer, 33, proudly showed off her baby bump in a series of snaps taken during a recent photoshoot in New York with A$AP Rocky.
The pop icon is believed to have known the 33-year-old rapper for over a decade, but they officially began their relationship back in 2020.
Confirming their romance last year, A$AP Rocky hailed Rihanna as “the love of [his life]”.
He told GQ: “She amounts to probably, like, a million of the other ones. I think when you know, you know. She’s the one.”
A$AP is meant to be headlining at this year’s double-weekend Wireless Festival alongside Tyler, The Creator, Cardi B, SZA and more. It’s not yet clear if his arrest will affect this upcoming appearance.
