6 albums you need to hear this week
The best new releases on streaming this week, with music by Hudson Mohawke, The Streets, and Erasure
In the age of streaming, it’s never been easier to listen to new music — but with over 60,000 new songs added to Spotify every day, it’s also never been harder to know what to put on. Every week, the team at Rolling Stone UK will run down some of the best new releases that have been added to streaming services.
This week, we’ve highlighted records by Hudson Mohawke, The Streets, and Erasure.
The Streets, Brexit at Tiffany’s
On The Streets’ first release since 2020’s None Of Us Are Getting Out Of This Alive, Mike Skinner sees the parallels between messy relationships and well, err, Britain’s exact same state of affairs with the European Union.
“Brexit at Tiffany’s’ is a song about how the end of a relationship can be as messy as leaving Europe! ‘We don’t belong to each other: he’s an independent, and so am I,” says Skinner.
The Streets‘ new EP also features ‘3 Minutes to Midnight’, a bass heavy number featuring grime star Manga Saint Hilare, and ‘Test of Time’.

Erasure, Day-Glo — Based on a True Story
18 albums in, synth-pop duo Erasure are still promising to surprise us. The new LP explores both the “familiar and unexpected”, pulling elements from 2020 dance-heavy album The Neon with a “more atmospheric and introspective” twist. Carving out a new sonic landscape, the album offers a window into the manipulation and experimentation that was born out of spare studio time.

Hudson Mohawke, Cry Sugar
On his third solo album and first in six years, acclaimed producer Ross Birchard delves into the sounds that shaped his formative years for a rewarding trip down Memory Lane. Retro happy hardcore sounds reign supreme, while production royalty is present in the form of Tayla Parx and the Neptunes’ Chad Hugo.

Kasabian, The Alchemist’s Euphoria
On their first album since the departure of vocalist Tom Meighan, Kasabian’s chief songwriter Serge Pizzorno steps up to being frontman. It’s a role he feels born for, and swaggers straight into the spotlight on the new record without hesitation. His vocals also excel on The Alchemist’s Euphoria as the Leicester band search for a deeper connection through more thoughtful, widescreen sounds.

Max Tundra, Remixtape
The little-known yet influential electronic musician Max Tundra is the subject of a new reissue campaign by Domino. Alongside re-releases of his albums Some Best Friend You Turned Out to Be (from 2000), Mastered by Guy at the Exchange (2002), and Parallax Error Beheads You (2008), the label are putting out the new Remixtape, taking his classic tracks and reworking them by modern artists who’ve built on his legacy of unusual experimental pop: A. G. Cook, Kero Kero Bonito, and Julia Holter among them.

Panda Bear & Sonic Boom, Reset
While Animal Collective’s Panda Bear (Noah Lennox) and Peter “Sonic Boom” Kember first collaborated over a decade ago on the former’s 2011’s album Tomboy, and again on 2015’s Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper, Reset marks the pair’s first collaborative album. It’s a dream-like, psychedelic soundscape of swirling vocal melodies and kaleidoscopic arrangements by way of The Beach Boys. “It was deep dreaming, really,” Kember said of the surreal process. Sit back, relax, and float away.
