4 albums you need to hear this week
With music from Drake, Burna Boy, Ashnikko and more.
In the age of streaming, it’s never been easier to listen to new music — but with over 60,000 new songs added to Spotify every day, it’s also never been harder to know what to put on. Every week, the team at Rolling Stone UK will run down some of the best new releases that have been added to streaming services.
This week, we’ve highlighted records by Burna Boy, Willie J Healey, Ashnikko and Daði Freyr.
Drake – For All The Dogs
After being teased for months, Drake’s new album For All The Dogs has finally arrived. Complete with artwork from the rapper’s son Adonis, the album features guest appearances from Nicki Minaj and Bad Bunny. With production from Lil Yachty among others, it continues Drake’s seemingly never-ending streak at the centre of popular culture, following 2022’s album-length collaboration with 21 Savage, Her Loss.

Burna Boy – I Told Them…
Fresh off becoming a stadium-headlining artist in the UK earlier this summer, Burna Boy’s hot streak continues on new album I Told Them... A more streamlined and focused project, the new record welcomes collaborations with Dave, 21 Savage and J. Cole, and feels like Burna Boy’s most considered and comprehensive work to date.

Ashnikko – WEEDKILLER
After a long string of EPs and hype-building singles, Ashnikko’s debut album WEEDKILLER arrives with the genre-blurring artist already feeling like a firm picture in the pop ecosystem. “I was writing music people wanted to hear,” she recently said of her 2021 mixtape Demidevil, “and now I write music that I want to hear.” Doing it for herself works wonders on WEEDKILLER, an album that sonically travels from alt-rock to cutting-edge pop but never loses sight of the signature voice at the centre of it all.

Willie J Healey – Bunny
With co-signs from Arctic Monkeys, The Libertines and Jamie T, Willie J Healey is becoming your favourite singers’ favourite singer in indie circles. The hype is justified on new album Bunny, a record that keeps the essence of his laid-back, slacker songwriting while inviting in new elements of R&B and pop and expanding his world.

Daði Freyr – I Made An Album
Since representing Iceland in the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest (after his planned appearance in 2020 was cancelled due to COVID), Daði Freyr has avoided the trappings of many past contestants and ensured that it’s not all he’ll be remembered for. Since, the Berlin-based singer has carved out a niche of making deliciously weird, inventive pop music, and his new LP I Made An Album is filled with the same off-the-wall energy.
