In the age of streaming, it’s never been easier to listen to new music — but with over 60,000 new songs added to Spotify every day, it’s also never been harder to know what to put on. Every week, the team at Rolling Stone UK will run down some of the best new releases that have been added to streaming services.

This week, we’ve highlighted records by Jack White, 86TVs, The Smashing Pumpkins and Moses Sumney.

Jack White – No Name

Jack White first teased a new studio album last month when he subtly placed blank vinyl records into customers’ bags at his Third Man Records stores across the planet. The vinyl, it turns out, was for 13-track new record No Name, which he had encouraged fans to share online for free. It all points to an artist relaxing into a carefree portion of his solo career and acting on instinct and passion.

86TVs – 86TVs

There’s plenty to love on this debut from 86TVs, the band formed by ex Maccabees’ Felix and Hugo White, their brother Will and former Noisettes drummer Jamie Morrison. ‘Higher Love’ shows off the euphoric indie for which that aforementioned band were perhaps known, but there’s other tangents that show they’re far more than this too. ‘Komorebi’ is a sweet, heart-rending thing, while ‘Dreaming’ lives up to its otherworldly and ethereal title. Fans of the old bands will lap it up, but there’s enough here to bring on board a whole new generation too.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Aghori Mhori Mei

Surprise! No one was expecting this latest venture from the Smashing Pumpkins to arrive until it was announced earlier this week, but Billy Corgan and co’s latest venture is a complete treat. There’s a prog-rock triumph on the soaring ‘Pentagrams’, while the unrepentant grunge of ‘Edin’ is one of the best things they’ve managed in a long while. These veterans might be long in the tooth, but they’re still finding something to say.

Moses Sumney – Sophcore

Moses Sumney’s new Sophcore EP is his first new music in three years, following the 2020 LP Græ and a live record from the following year. “Sophcore explores the meeting points between sensuality and intuition… esotericism and populism… deep feeling and fun,” Sumney said of the new record. “It’s diving into subterranean rhythm, bass and drums, and making music for the hips as well as the heart.”
