The first look at Christopher Nolan’s next film, The Odyssey, has been released.

In the first look at Nolan’s ambitious adaptation of Homer’s epic poem, Matt Damon is seen preparing for battle in the role of Odysseus. He’s seen wearing a cape, gauntlets and a helmet complete with a suitable red plume.

It’s set to be Nolan’s first film since winning Best Picture at the Oscars for Oppenheimer last year. The photo of Damon in character is the first look at the film since cameras began rolling earlier this month.

Other stars set to feature along Damon include Nolan’s former collaborators Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson, while Tom Holland, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron are also on board to make their first film with the Inception helmer.

It’s unclear how faithfully Nolan will follow the epic, sprawling work but Universal said upon announcing the project that it will be “a mythic action epic shot across the world”.

The Odyssey is Homer’s epic 24-book poem that follows the events of Odysseus as he makes his long journey home from Troy across ten years as he attempts to reunite with his family, encountering battles with the mythical cyclops on the way.

Filming will take place across Europe and the film will hit cinemas on July 17, 2026.
