Lady Gaga vomited out “anxiety, trauma and love” on set of ‘House Of Gucci’
Lady Gaga mined her own trauma to play Patrizia Reggiani in the Ridley Scott film

Lady Gaga would often vomit on the set of ‘House Of Gucci’ from “anxiety, fatigue, trauma, exhaustion, commitment and love”.
The ‘Rain On Me’ singer stars as Patrizia Reggiani in Ridley Scott’s drama about the murder of Maurizio Gucci. She has spoken about her commitment to the role including using a northern Italian accent for nine months even when off camera.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gaga said that often after waking at 3am during the three-and-a-half-month shoot to begin her hair and make-up, she would vomit from a mixture of “anxiety, fatigue, trauma, exhaustion, commitment and love”. She added: “You wake up, you throw up, you go to set, throw up again.”
The 35-year-old used her own memories of traumatic events, including being raped at the aged of 19, to depict Reggiani’s mental state, but it began to blur the lines between her own experiences and those of her character.
Gaga said: “It’s a scene where I knock a lit candle across the room, and I remember I gave Salma [Hayek] a heart attack that day. I was falling apart as [Reggiani] fell apart. When I say that I didn’t break character, some of it was not by choice.”
Director Ridley Scott warned her to stop, telling the actress: “I don’t want you traumatising yourself.”
Gaga’s performance as Patrizia is already drumming up awards season buzz, with many critics predicting she will land her second Best Actress Oscar nomination, after previously being nominated for playing Ally in the remake of ‘A Star Is Born’.
‘House Of Gucci’ follows the marriage of Reggiani and Maurizio Gucci (played by Adam Driver), their divorce, and the eventual murder of the head of the fashion house.
Reggiani was convicted of arranging the murder of her ex-husband and was sentenced to 29 years in prison, which was later reduced to 26 years on appeal. She was released in 2016 after serving 18 years.
Gaga did not meet or speak with Reggiani prior to playing her, and Reggiani said she was “rather annoyed” about it.
She told Agenzia Nazionale Stampa Associata in March: “I am rather annoyed at the fact that Lady Gaga is playing me in the new Ridley Scott film without having had the consideration and sensibility to come and meet me. It is not an economic question. I won’t get a cent [from] the film. It is a question of good sense and respect.”
‘House Of Gucci’ is released in the UK on November 26.
