Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell have written new music for the upcoming Disney Pixar movie ‘Turning Red’.
The brother-sister duo were approached by the makers of the film to write songs for the fictional boyband 4*Town that protagonist Meilin “Mei” Lee and her friends are obsessed with in the film.
Eilish and O’Connell have penned three of the band’s songs for ‘Turning Red’, with the first of them, ‘Nobody Like U’, featuring in the opening seconds of the trailer.
The music can be expected to be in the vein of boybands like Backstreet Boys and N*Sync, with the latter’s song ‘It’s Gonna Be Me’ featuring heavily in the trailer.
Finneas is also credited as one of the voices of 4*Town.
Producer Lindsey Collins told Variety: “When we first started talking about Billie Eilish and Finneas – back before they’d won a billion Grammys – we could see then how they had their finger on the pulse.
“We were big fans. We met with them and pitched this crazy idea of a boy band, asking if they’d be interested in writing and producing the songs. They were.”
Coming-of-age film ‘Turning Red’ is set in the early 2000s and follows a 13-year-old girl who inherits a family trait that means she turns into a red panda whenever she feels a strong emotion.
Newcomer Rosalie Chiang voices Mei, while Sandra Oh and Orion Lee voice her parents. ‘Turning Red’ is directed by Domee Shi, who wrote and directed the Oscar-winning Pixar short ‘Bao’.
‘Turning Red’ is set for release on March 11, 2022.
Meanwhile, Eilish has added another branch to her brand, having launched her first fragrance last week.
The ‘Bad Guy’ singer’s signature fragrance ‘Eilish’ is a mix of vanilla, amber and musk, and she told Vogue: “Perfumes have been one of my greatest joys in life, and I’ve always wanted to make one. And not as Billie Eilish, not as an artist, not as a singer; I wanted to make a perfume to have a perfume. It has nothing to do with me, I’m just branding it so that people see it.”
