The new 28 Years Later film has reportedly been shot on the latest iteration of the iPhone, reports suggest.

Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor Johnson and Ralph Fiennes are all set to star in the third instalment of Danny Boyle’s acclaimed zombie franchise, which began with 2002’s 28 Days Later.

The first film was set a month after a zombie virus sparked the collapse of civilisation in the UK, with the film focusing on courier Jim (Cillian Murphy) who wakes up from a coma and is forced to adjust to the realities of his strange new world. Murphy is also set to return for the latest film.

While cameras rolled for the project over the summer, Wired now reports it was specifically filmed on an adapted iPhone 15. The project boasts a budget of $75 million (£56.4million), which means it will become one of the biggest films ever created on smartphones.

The film is set for release on June 20 2025 and will be followed by a sequel called The Bone Temple, which is also currently shooting and directed by Candyman helmer Nia DaCosta.

Boyle’s 2002 film is considered to be a turning point for the modern reinvention of zombie films, defined by the aggressive zombies who were able to run – a characterisation not previously seen in genre films up until that point.

Murphy also previously told The Independent he would star in any future project in “a heartbeat”.“I would be there in a flash. I made two movies with both of those guys, and I would love to work with them again. Of course, I’m there,” he said.
