J-pop sensation Kenshi Yonezu ended March 2025 with a bang following a blistering performance in London. Yonezu’s gig – which took place in the iconic Eventim Apollo venue – came as the artist was at the height of his global tour, one which has FINALLY allowed Western audiences to get a taste of his unique brand of experimental pop.
Global J-pop sensation Kenshi Yonezu stunned audiences at his highly anticipated London live debut on March 30th.
Performing at the Eventim Apollo, Yonezu’s gig came as part of his 2025 “JUNK” World Tour. The concert marked a historic moment for both the artist and his international fanbase, with many of his fans having waited years to experience his music live outside of Japan.
At the event itself, Yonezu treated fans to 24 songs in total, spanning his 15+ years as a commercial artist. As expected, Yonezu focused overwhelmingly on songs from his chart-topping 2024 album, Lost Corner; indeed, the set was bookended by ‘RED OUT’ as the first song, and the album title song as the closer.
The focus on this album surely came as no surprise to fans, considering that Lost Corner helped propel Yonezu to global audiences last year – not to mention the fact that the album features ‘Spinning Globe’, the theme for the Academy Award-winning animated fantasy film, The Boy and the Heron.
Aided by his backing band and dynamic dance troupe, Yonezu’s performance showcased the full suite of his talents; his arresting vocals, striking visuals, and immersive staging were some of the clear highlights, while his unique ability to blend J-pop, rock, and electronic elements felt even more mesmerizing on the live stage as it did on his records.
Beyond this, the close, intimate setting of the Eventim Apollo allowed fans to experience the emotion and humanity in songs like ‘Garakuta’, while also allowing them to vibe with the frenetic energy of hits like ‘Kick Back.’
JUNK Tour’s Unprecedented Scale
Yonezu’s London show followed the massive success of Yonezu’s domestic tour leg, which included 16 shows across 8 cities, drawing an unprecedented 350,000 fans – and culminating in a triumphant two-day finale at Tokyo Dome.
Yonezu also took his genre-defying artistry overseas. Audiences caught him performing everywhere from Shanghai and Taipei to Paris and Los Angeles, with these solidifying his status as a global superstar.
