From the service to the field of real estate, Christopher Aubin’s life story is one rife with lessons to be gleaned. As a former Marine turned CEO of Anchor State Investments, Aubin has faced the difficulties of transitioning to civilian life, successfully building a thriving business and making the time to give back to his community.

The Marine Mindset: Lessons in Resilience

Aubin’s experiences in the Marine Corps have been central to his attitude toward life and business. “The military taught me the importance of discipline, strategic thinking, and adaptability,” he reflects. “These skills have been invaluable in the real estate world.

Indeed, his background has equipped him with a unique perspective on leadership and resilience. He has spoken at length on the importance of leading by example, a principle he applies daily at Anchor State Investments.

As a leader, it’s not about barking orders,” he explains. “It’s about rolling up your sleeves and working alongside your team, showing them that no challenge is insurmountable. That extends to your surrounding community, too.

This mindset has been particularly pivotal in Aubin’s challenges in recent years. Despite facing skepticism and a rapidly inflating real estate market, he has remained committed to transparency and integrity in business and personal life.

In the face of adversity, it’s easy to get discouraged,” he admits. “True resilience is about staying the course, even when the path gets rocky.

Building a Business on the Pillars of Community and Integrity

For Aubin, real estate is not solely an avenue for business—it is a chance to make a positive change. Through Anchor State Investments, he has undertaken the mission of providing affordable housing opportunities to those who need them and educating the masses on smart financial decision-making.

It’s not about just selling houses. It’s a business created to transform lives and strengthen communities,” Aubin stresses.

This community-centric mindset is evident in every aspect of Anchor State’s operations. The company’s unique model combines property rehabilitation, and financial education, all designed to break down the barriers to home-ownership. In 2023 alone, Anchor State helped over 100 families achieve the dream of home-ownership through affordable housing, with 90% reporting increased financial security.

However, Aubin’s efforts toward his community are felt beyond the walls of Anchor State. He firmly believes in the power of personal integrity and civic leadership.

As a business leader, I have a responsibility to my clients, investors, and the wider community,” he notes. “That means conducting myself with honesty, transparency, and a genuine desire to help others.

Lessons for Aspiring Entrepreneurs and Community Leaders

When asked about future aspirations, Aubin expressed optimism about positive social change. He encourages aspiring entrepreneurs, especially those transitioning from military service, to embrace the challenges and opportunities of civilian life.

The skills and values you’ve learned in the military—discipline, teamwork, integrity— are invaluable assets in the business world,” he advises. “Use them, and never lose sight of the importance of giving back to your community.

Anchor State Investments is projected to continue its impressive growth trajectory. With plans to expand to five additional states by 2025, Aubin and his team seek to bring their affordable housing model and financial support to even more communities.

At the end of the day, success isn’t the bottom line,” Aubin concludes. “It’s living and leading with honesty, integrity, and the respect of those around you. That’s the legacy I want to leave, both as a Marine and as a business leader.
