Japanese rock legend HYDE returns to the stage with his fifth solo album, “HYDE [INSIDE],” marking his first release in five years. The album, digitally released last September 13 and physically released on October 16, 2024, showcases collaborations with prominent composers and producers crafted meticulously over four years.
HYDE’s band, VAMPS, made international success with their songs “Inside Of Me” and “Calling,” becoming a hit in the U.S. and winning the “Best New Artist” for SiriusXM Octane poll twice. Before ”HYDE [INSIDE],” the Japanese rock artist had already released three successful solo albums, with his last album, ANTI, released in May 2019.
A Showcase of Musical Artistry
“HYDE [INSIDE]” combines HYDE’s experiences as a solo artist and a member of iconic bands like L’Arc-en-Ciel and VAMPS. This album explores his artistic evolution, blending signature rock sound with new experimental elements. It reflects HYDE’s desire to show something new to his fans while staying true to the core of what has made him a lasting figure in the Japanese and international rock scenes.
Produced in collaboration with members from powerful bands such as SiM, MY FIRST STORY, and Crystal Lake, the album features 13 tracks that demonstrate HYDE’s versatility as a solo artist and his ability to collaborate with domestic and international talent, creating a sound that is both familiar and refreshing.
HYDE emphasizes that his album showcases not only past successes but also his continuing growth as an artist, reaffirming his status as one of the prominent Japanese rock musicians.
What to Expect with HYDE [INSIDE]?
At its core, “HYDE [INSIDE]” represents HYDE’s personal journey, showcasing his growth over the years. Tracks such as “PANDORA” and “DEFEAT” demonstrate his talent for creating high-energy anthems that resonate with both long-time fans and new listeners.
Meanwhile, the album’s centerpiece, “LAST SONG,” filmed entirely in Austria, presents a haunting rock ballad that pushes HYDE’s artistic boundaries. The music video portrays HYDE in a disturbing masquerade setting, watched by figures in eerie masks, symbolizing his role as an outcast.
“HYDE [INSIDE]” combines previously released hit songs with five new tracks, showcasing HYDE’s musical range comprehensively. The album includes several notable tie-up songs, such as “PANDORA,” which serves as the theme song for Square Enix’s “Star Ocean 6 THE DIVINE FORCE,” and “DEFEAT,” featured in PlayStation®5’s “Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition.”
HYDE [INSIDE] was released in multiple formats—a first-press limited edition and a standard edition, with other products, such as a Limited Edition BOX Set featuring exclusive content such as music videos, a HYDE LIVE 2022 digest video, special merchandise, and a comprehensive package including an LP-size booklet and a special T-shirt.
Global Reach and Future Plans
HYDE’s remarkable journey from Wakayama to international stardom spans more than three decades, during which he has redefined the boundaries of Japanese rock music. With over 40 million albums sold worldwide and the distinction of being the first Asian artist, as L’Arc-en-Ciel, to hold a solo show at Madison Square Garden, his influence on the global music landscape is undeniable. His previous solo effort, “ANTI,” particularly resonated with American audiences, further expanding his international following.
To support the new release, HYDE has embarked on his first world tour in approximately five years, dubbed “HYDE [INSIDE] LIVE 2024 WORLD TOUR.” The ambitious tour schedule includes performances across Asia, with stops in Taipei, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Chengdu, Beijing, and Seoul, culminating in highly anticipated American shows at Brooklyn Steel on November 27th and The Novo in Los Angeles on November 30th.
“I am thrilled to be back on the road and excited to show my fans the performances I’ve prepared and sing for them the songs of HYDE [INSIDE] live,” HYDE shares.
